Cole B. Richter

Cole B. Richter is a partner with Lee Sullivan Shea and Smith LLP. Mr. Richter focuses his practice on patent litigation, Inter Partes Review and Covered Business Method Review proceedings, and patent procurement in electrical engineering and computer software fields. He is particularly experienced in all stages of complex, multi-party patent litigation, including organizing e-discovery, taking and defending depositions, dispositive and post-trial motion practice, jury trials, and appeal. Mr. Richter’s practice also includes acting as local counsel in patent infringement matters in the Northern District of Illinois where he is deeply familiar with the local patent rules.
Mr. Richter also brings over a decade of experience counseling clients regarding the validity, infringement, and enforceability of patents and handling matters throughout all phases of U.S. and foreign patent prosecution. He has conducted numerous freedom-to-operate studies and patentability analyses, each of which included the development and execution of sophisticated search strategies and comprehensive written opinions.
Prior to studying law, Mr. Richter worked in Sensor Research and Development at Lakeshore Cryotronics in Westerville, Ohio and in Transmission Operations at American Electric Power in Columbus, Ohio.
